My Finnish adventure didn’t go so well, at first they only wanted to send me one collectors edition instead of the two I had ordered, since I hadn’t preordered some beta key. I accepted that but then it turned out they didn’t have any copies at all and they offered to send me a regular edition instead. Given that postage from Finland would cost about as much as the (regular) game itself, I kindly declined.

I bought two regular editions in a Danish store and tried a few different dual box combinations. Playing right at launch was ok fun but very soon I found myself in empty zones (I can’t play a lot), unable to do PQs. This sucked but the kicker for me was the lack of PVE content. I didn’t want to run the scenario hamster wheel and there just wasn’t enough XP from PVE to keep leveling at a decent pace without jumping through all kinds of hoops.

I played the free month, had some fun, but didn’t subscribe, especially not since WotLK was looming on the horizon at the time.

I’ve been playing around with the Facebook API recently and one of my applications takes a really long time to do its magic. To get around the problem with the canvas page timeout (~10s max execution time) I run my update script in an fb:iframe, showing a progress bar.

I found this nice PHP progress bar for that task and thought I’d recommend it.

Multiboxing History Part 2

At that point I actually joined a casual raiding guild (Detrimentum) but that didn’t go too well. This particular guild had a small group of egotist officers running the raids, forming a small clique, which you had to brown nose to get a slot. They fed on new recruits to complete their roosters, who had to sit outside the raid instances night after night, with no planning and no option to sign up.

I tried to point this out, since the GM at least was a nice and fair guy, but that just earned myself a /gkick, since the egotists obviously wanted to keep their feeding trough and the GM just didn’t get it.

Anyway, I had created a 5 man multi box team before I left that guild and just played that solely after I left, slowly making my way to 70. I had chosen to aim for a Paladin(tank)/Shaman(healer)/Mage/Mage/Warlock since I had some usable characters of those classes sitting around at various levels. After hitting 70 I ran some instances and swapped in a priest healer instead of one of the mages, while respec’ing the shaman elemental, mainly since the priest had pretty much maxed out ilvl 115 equipment, with 1800+ healing. This worked out sorta ok but now I had a mix of blood elf/tauren/undead/troll and the visuals annoyed me a little bit.

So I rerolled all blood elves instead, Paladin(tank)/Priest(healer)/Warlock/Warlock/Mage and that team is now 64!

Multiboxing History Part 1

I haven’t played much lately, since a certain woman is occupying my mind in my spare time, but a little history might be in order, especially since this is one of the things I intended to write about :S

I played DAoC back when it released, one account at first but eventually I ended up sharing an account with a friend, with a buffbot shaman on it.

When World of Warcraft released I started an account and played it normally, on and off, until I found myself with very little time on my hands because of real life. I then made a hunter/priest duo which suited my situation perfectly (easy and the ability to do elite quests by my self). After reaching level 60 (this was back before TBC) I got to see some of the instances, as I could try my hand at it whenever I wanted to by myself.

I don’t like PUGs. I play with a some of my real life friends sometimes but often I enjoy just playing alone. I know an MMORPG might seem like an odd choice but some of the social aspects are fine, I just don’t want random people in my face, unless I’m in the mood.

Anyway, my hunter/priest combo was able to do most of BRD and some LBRS/Strat/Scholo/Dire Maul but I soon hit the ceiling. Along came TBC with a nice buf to pet tanking capabilities and I quickly got my duo to 70. The 70 instances were a nono though, on my own. I have pet tanked some of them (and healed at the same time) with some friends along but I just didn’t have enough DPS to do them on my own.

I’m going to take Warhammer Online for a spin when it releases (played DAoC back in the day and I like Mythic) so yesterday I was looking a little bit more at the current info and decided to preorder a collectors edition. Much to my dismay it was sold out at all the listed Danish retailers.

Hrmpf.

So, I checked some shops in Sweden and one of them still had copies left but really expensive (~2000 Swedish crowns), too much for my taste. I found it in a store in Finland listed at 70 euro, which is less than half the price in the Swedish shop *ponder*

It took me about an hour to place my order, since the web site was in Finnish, of which I know no words except “Perkele!”. I do hope the order is placed correctly, since I don’t understand a word of the emails I got afterwards =)

Welcome to the humble blog of Torkil Svensgaard.

I’m sure the experts would tell me I should do this and that if I want an audience, like sticking to a primary topic, but I’m doing this mainly for myself, so I really don’t care.

This is my first blog and I have no idea if it will be something I get to like using or if I’ll delete it in a week, time will tell.
